There are many people in the world who are early risers, here are 7 benefits to get you (if you aren't yet one) to start waking up early today.

Heard of motivational quotes like “be the early bird that catches the worm” to “carpe diem” (wake up early and go seize the day)? The thought of being an early riser has since empowered many to want to get up now and go get things done, chase one’s dreams, and be hyper productive pronto.

From having zero need for a mad-rush from getting up at the last minute, to getting up excited and going into the frame of mind where you’re able to go out and make a great day ahead, and relaxing yourself prior to the start of your day, waking up early has its perks.

While many are already early risers, here are 7 benefits for those who aren’t yet one to start kicking yourself out of the bed and going on to become a strong advocate of an early riser:

1. Breakfast.

One of the greatest enjoyments in life is being able to wake up early, freshen up, and start the day right with a nice warm meal with a cuppa coffee or tea. It helps boost ones metabolism, to work at peak capacity, with a great and healthy breakfast.

2. Getting prepared for “battle” (your day).

2 ways to wake up for the day; one could choose to wake up in the heat of a battle (late into the morning), where stuff are already being done, facing tension all around, or one could choose to wake up early, get breakfast and be ultimately prepared to kick start your day to your advantage.

3. Enjoy yourself.

One major complaint in this modern day, rush-filled, society is not being able to have a proper family-work-life balance. Waking up earlier allows one to begin the day right, by doing things that you and your family would enjoy, before heading off to the next level which is to work, and doing so knowing that your time has been well spent in the morning to enjoy with your loved ones.

4. Planning your day.

One may had once started his day late and straight into the mid-day battle filled with rushing the kids, to rushing one’s breakfast, and reaching the office in a grumpy state. Do otherwise from today; start your day up early, give a little 5-10 minute thought and visualize how you would want your day to be, plan it out, and do accordingly.

5. Exercise.

Kick start your day by jumping out of the bed and get into motion by exercising your body right at the dawn of the day! While working out after work may be a good relaxer to end a hectic day, it’s more likely to be canceled with the uncertainty of last minute dinner arrangements, to late evening meetings, greet your mornings with an early exercise appointment that you’ll be able to control and see to it get done before your work day commences.

6. Hobbies.

Learning a new language, writing your first novel, to drafting out your first programming script? You may find the best (least distractions) time way up in the morning for you to master a new skill that you’ve been wanting to accomplish this year.

7. Goals and reflection.

Above and beyond, all of us need to set goals and have the time to reflect on one’s plans and progress. A great time to do so is right up in the morning, where you can psyche your spirits up, create your checklist of things to achieve today, going up to peak state, and go accomplish your goals today.

“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” – Ben Franklin

Dear Lifehacker,

I’d like to set an alarm on my computer, but instead of a beep I’d like to assign a preset online radio so I can wake up to music every morning. Do you know how to do this?

Sincerely,
No Beeping Please

How Can I Make My Computer Work as an Online Clock Radio? On Windows you can use an application like PC Alarm Clock …

Hope that helps, and happy mornings!
